LAUTECH Alumni and Scholars Shine Globally as University Strengthens Global Research Reputation
Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has further solidified its standing as a leading global research institution, as six of its scholars and two distinguished alumni were featured in the 2025 list of the world’s top 2% scientists, compiled by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier.
This remarkable achievement not only celebrates the university’s academic strength but also highlights the enduring impact of its alumni network. The two alumni, who continue to maintain strong affiliations with LAUTECH through their academic mentors, exemplify how the university’s influence extends beyond its walls, contributing to global knowledge production.
The LAUTECH scholars on this year’s prestigious list are:
Late Prof. Abass A. Olajire (Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry), ranked 5th in Nigeria.
Prof. Olugbenga S. Bello (Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry), ranked 18th in Nigeria.
Prof. Lateef Agbaje (Department of Pure and Applied Biology), ranked 50th in Nigeria.
Dr. Samson Olaniyi (Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics), ranked 178th in Nigeria.
Dr. Roland E. Akhigbe (Department of Physiology), ranked 249th in Nigeria.
Prof. Ayodeji F. Ajayi (Department of Physiology), ranked 280th in Nigeria.
The late Prof. Olajire, Prof. Bello, and Prof. Agbaje have maintained their positions among the top 2% of scientists globally for six consecutive years, a testament to their outstanding research contributions. They also remain the three most cited scholars at LAUTECH.

Since its debut on the list in 2020 with three scholars, LAUTECH’s representation has steadily grown—five scholars in 2024 and now six in 2025—showcasing a consistent rise in research output and international visibility.
